Drabble: Childhood Dreams (Boromir, Faramir)

My parents are in town so I'm having a nice, fun weekend:o)

If this one works as it's intended, then it fits the tolkien_weekly "the Life Aquatic" challenge...

Childhood Dreams

Sometimes they had times like this; seated together in a quiet tavern, watching the skies dimming over the mountains across the river.

Boromir’s voice is wistful, slowed by sweet wines from far-off vales, "When you were young you wanted to be a river... I was surprised..."

Faramir’s smile is as wistful, "That I wanted to be a river? Strong, tireless, full of life, unstopping till the sea? You wanted to be a horse..."

"A noble beast... I was surprised...," he pauses, "... I thought you’d want to be..."

"I wanted to be you," Faramir replies, "... strong, tireless, full of life, unstopping..."

***

Like I said, I don’t know if this works, and if it doesn’t I’m not sure it’ll fit the challenge, in which case I’ll pull it out.
The brothers wanting to be rivers and horses is from a scene from Strength of a River

Don't you dare pull it out - it's lovely!
As soon as I saw "When you were young..." I knew where it came from, and smiled to remember that wondous tale. Thanks for reminding me of it today.

*hugs* Thank you! I'm truly glad you liked it... as well as Strength of a River.

I wondered because I wasn't sure how clear it would be to someone who hadn't read it.

:wrings out hankie: lyrical and beautiful - a treat for a gloomy, rainy morning here in the South.

:o) Thank you. Sorry to hear the morning's gloomy... I hope it stops raining, and you're treated to a nice, bright, washed post-rain afternoon.

Ooooh

There's a very poignant sub-text there - and as such it fits the challenge beautifully!

Oh goody... I'm so glad to hear that sub-text comes through. I wasn't sure if it would, especially to anyone who hadn't read the earlier fic.:o

Thanks so much for the feedback:)

That's just lovely. Really. the sentiment is beautiful, and you've captured the characters of the brothers perfectly.

Young Faramir hero-worshipped Boromir, but Boromir was a good hero to worship.

You're lucky - I've already done my 'Boromir was more of a hero than Aragorn' spiel once this week, and I never have the energy to do it twice.

Aww...was referred here by Periantari. That was sweet! *wipes tears* I think there definitely aren't enough fics with the two brothers. Good job!
